In one of my classes, we have a unit called Impossible Relationships. We introduce many obstacles that develop in romantic relationships. One activity that we do includes song lyrics. We have several different types of love songs, and we have the students select some and identify the problems in the relationship. From watching Jenna's presentation, I saw another way to use song lyrics as an introduction piece for this unit.
I'm thinking that I could ask students to bring in their own love song lyrics before we start the unit. We could read some of the lyrics on the projector, and I could casually slip in the idea that most of the songs about romantic relationships have an obstacle or problem. We could try to figure out those together, and then the idea of "star-crossed" lovers and impossible relationships could organically emerge. Thank you, Jenna, for helping me think of this concept in a new way!
